Planned Parenthood Luncheon
This mural was made with community members who attended the Planned Parenthood South Texas Annual Luncheon in October 2024.
In the image, Indigenous artist, Ceiba Ili, looks to the future with the support of native birds and butterflies. She wears watermelon earrings in solidarity with Palestine, connecting the resilience of Indigenous populations from Turtle Island and beyond. While the hummingbird represents hope and healing, the green jay represents strength and protection. The butterflies symbolize our ancestors who remind us to care for the earth and her inhabitants, guiding our paths forward. Her traditional cedar smudge reveals the text, “The Future is Freedom,” to acknowledge that all struggles are intertwined, and that all are deserving of freedom.
