Isabel Ann Castro:
“Pecans falling from the tree, hitting my bedroom roof and rolling down the side is one of my favorite sounds. I’ve always loved hunting for these little delicious treasures covered up by crunchy leaves. We’ve filled buckets and buckets of pecans each fall and sat around the kitchen table cracking shells as we watch Jeopardy.

I know winter is over when the mesquite trees start to bud with new leaves. These tiny little bright lime-green bubbly feathers make me smile when I finally notice them. Soon they will be the shadiest trees for me to sit under in the summer.”
